Curriculum Strength and Advanced Testing: Do They Matter?

Curriculum Strength and Advanced Testing: Do They Matter?

I became talking with a mom of the student that is prospective. She mentioned questions regarding our assessment of rigor and AP/IB/SAT tests that are subject. These concerns have recently show up more frequently in a blog so I thought it would be fitting to address it. Possibly it’s because AP tests are coming soon and pupils are starting to question if it’s worth every penny to just take the tests.

First, let’s address rigor. The inquiry that is overall to basically boil down for this:

Are admission counselors capable objectively and fairly evaluate the curriculum power of each student?

In word, YES. At USC, we now have among the greatest, if perhaps not the admission staff that is largest of any personal university in the united states. Each user is assigned to a domestic or international area, or both. We take pride in looking after our territories. Relationships are forged and maintained with high school counselors shmoop pro, parents and students that are prospective. The aim is to have comprehensive and detailed understanding of our territory. We have become alert to just what an application that is competitive like within its proper context. Ultimately, you are able to start thinking about us as context specialists. Context is specially essential in our process. We understand that rigor appears vastly unique and different for every school. Use of scholastic and extracurricular tasks in each school that is high town, and area will vary.

I obtain it…rigor and context are crucial. Is reasonable. So now that I’ve taken all these advanced level courses, is it actually worth it to simply take the tests?

In another word, well the word that is same YES. You’ve place in so much work learning the advanced material all 12 months. Then just simply take the test?! There are more prospective benefits besides the obvious economic cost savings you might have if you’re to pass these tests. In essence, you can end up freeing some units to just take in another minor or perhaps a double major. Trust me, if you put in the work now, the benefits will outweigh the expense much more.

Generally, then you will be able to transfer some credits into USC if you receive at least a 4 on any AP exam, or at least a 5 on any Higher Level IB Exam. To learn more, please go directly to the USC Articulation Website.

Finally, SAT Subject Tests, just what about those? Well, in short, they have been not necessary to submit an application for any undergraduate program at USC. But, in the event that you are taking them for the next college and also you get a great score, then get ahead and submit those scores to us. We will undoubtedly let them have a look.

Best of luck on every person using the AP and IB exams coming. I hope this offers some of you a bit that is little motivation!
